Bodrum+ Institute invited people from all over the world to Bodrum, the pearl of the Aegean Region, for the “Environment and Sustainability Summer School – 2” which took place in the summer of 2023. The training took place at Garaova Agricultural Park which helped the participants fully embrace nature in a unique way.
Summer School was a practice-intensive training/education program. The summer school started on August 27 in the afternoon after the participants gathered together. Students were hosted in tents as a part of the program. The program ended in the afternoon of September the 1st.
The 2nd Environment and Sustainability Summer School, organized by Bodrum+ Institute in Bodrum included theoretical and practical themes on environment and sustainability issues and took place between August 27 – September 1, 2023. Students who successfully completed the program were given a “Certificate of Participation” while they also had the opportunity to put their theoretical acquisitions into practice through project cycle management (PCM) training.
With the PCM workshop, we aimed to improve participants’ project writing, planning and implementation skills in the context of project cycle management. Participants had the opportunity to participate in the writing stages of a project that aimed to raise awareness of a global and social problem through the themes of Environment and Sustainability. The workshop process first began with the instructor giving general information about the programming, identifying, planning, implementation and evaluation stages of project cycle management. Following this, key information was given about important stages of project planning such as logical framework and vertical logic tables through group work, and the groups were asked to develop their own project ideas at the end.
The Summer School not only aims to contribute to studies on the environment, climate change, and sustainability in a theoretical manner but also provides young people with practical training through local field studies. Thus, the Summer School, bringing together local initiatives, non-governmental organizations, and youth aspires to emphasize the importance of individual contribution to environmental and sustainability endeavors and prioritizes the acquisition of social habits and specific methods for a sustainable lifestyle by young people.
During the 5-day Summer School, participants will have the opportunity to receive practical training in many areas including sustainable agricultural practices, combating forest fires, marine ecosystem protection programs and the role of civil society in environmental and sustainability issues. At the same time, they will get the chance to develop many social and camp craft skills by staying at the campground within the framework of this training. The participants will have completed this social and educational Summer School having gained awareness of environmental security, participated in good agricultural practices, learned the roles and scope of non-governmental organizations in environmental problems, and even applied them.
